Criminal Justice

CAJ works to ensure that Northern Ireland’s criminal justice system complies with best practice and internationally recognised human rights standards.

We do this by:

Researching areas of concern (e.g. prison service reform).

Producing and disseminating research findings and policy recommendations.

Monitoring the operation of criminal justice institutions, in relation to human rights compliance and implementation of Criminal Justice Review recommendations.

Responding to relevant criminal justice consultations.

Engaging with criminal justice agencies and other key stakeholders.

Lobbying at local, regional and international level.
